Reference Test

Vague memory × question selection — a quiz game to find the book you are looking for

Reference Test question screen with a bookstore in the background, where visitors talk about their vague memories of the book they are looking for.
Select the necessary clues from the visitor's story and answer the book title within the time limit.

What is Reference Test?

"I want to reread a book I read a long time ago. But I can't remember the title." This is a free browser quiz game that allows visitors to identify the book they are looking for based on their vague memories.

This is not a quick quiz that only asks if you know the name. Read the initial fragmentary description and ask for additional information about the title, cover, synopsis, and author. Think about how you can get closer to the answer. Inspired by library reference services, we created a game that combines the power of knowing and the power of asking questions and searching.

  • It is important to have the ability to think about search terms and find evidence on the internet.

If you want to seriously research a real book, we recommend the web version, and if you want to enjoy puzzles and running a bookstore without any prior knowledge, we recommend the GamePix version.

The more questions you ask, the less time you have left.

On the question screen, in addition to the visitor's initial explanation and answer field, a button to ask for additional clues will be displayed. Each time you ask a question, you get more information, but each time you ask a question, you get less time left. Rather than listening to everything in order, the basic idea is to think of possible candidates from the current explanation and choose questions that narrow down the answer.

listen to the title

Check the person's memory of part of the title and how it sounds. Although the answer is direct, it can also be vague.

listen to the cover

Use the colors, patterns, and binding impressions as clues. Simply explaining the content is useful when there are many candidates.

Listen to the synopsis

Listen to additional information about the characters and events and narrow down the candidates based on the content of the work.

listen to the author

Make sure you remember the author's name and persona. This is a clue to narrow down the group of works.
